Australia, New Zealand and France carry out evacuation flights from New Caledonia

Australia and New Zealand and France sent government planes to New Caledonia to evacuate citizens from the French territory, which has experienced a week of deadly riots triggered by the French government's electoral changes in Paris, reports Report via US News.

The French High Commission in New Caledonia said on Tuesday that the airport remains closed to commercial flights and that it will deploy military personnel to protect public buildings.

There were about 3.200 people waiting to leave or enter New Caledonia as commercial flights were canceled due to unrest that broke out last week, the local government said.

Roads in Noumea are being cleaned, with excavators removing carcasses and debris from burnt-out cars.
