Azul Conecta signs partnership to incorporate electric engines into the Cessna Caravan fleet

Blue Conecta Caravan electric motor agreement Surf Air Mobility

Azul Conecta, the company responsible for carrying out Azul's regional flights, and Surf Air Mobility, a company committed to transforming regional flights through the electrification of aircraft, signed a collaboration agreement in the process of developing and commercializing planes with electric engines . The partnership is in line with Azul Linhas Aéreas' plans to reduce carbon emissions to zero by 2045. By joining the United Nations (UN) Global Compact, the company became the first airline in Brazil to be part of the Agency UN, which is dedicated to promoting business development in line with the indicators of the 2030 Agenda.

Azul Conecta and Surf Air Mobility believe that, by working together, they will reduce environmental impacts through the development and implementation of electric aircraft. Furthermore, the collaboration between the two aims to meet technical and regulatory specifications, creating a more agile and safe path for the certification of operations with electric aircraft in Brazil.

Currently, Azul Conecta has 27 Cessna Caravan aircraft, operating to more than 80 destinations in Brazil. This agreement will help make it possible to upgrade this fleet, with all-electric engines, with Surf Air Mobility's proprietary technology developed and certified. First-generation all-electric powertrain technology aims to reduce direct operating costs by up to 50% and eliminate 100% of direct carbon emissions. These performance improvements could have profound impacts on the way Azul Conecta operates its airline network.

The companies believe that the all-electric Cessna Caravan aircraft will significantly improve the economics of Azul's existing routes, eliminating direct emissions and consequently allowing the launch of new routes that, today, are not economically viable with traditional combustion aircraft.
