The Ministry of Ports and Airports announced this Wednesday (8), the revocation of the Conac resolution that limited flights from Santos Dumont airport to a radius of 400km.
As a result, even though there are no longer restrictions for other destinations in Brazil, Santos Dumont will have an annual limit of up to 6.5 million passengers and the new rule remains in place until January 2024. The decision should be published in the Official Gazette of the Union later this week, as reported by the G1 portal.
Until January 2023, more than 9,2 million passengers passed through the Rio terminal, while in 2022, the airport received around 10,9 million passengers.
The initiative to limit the number of destinations from Rio's airport was heavily criticized by experts and other sectors, including questions from the Federal Audit Court (TCU).
This measure was an appeal from the city of Rio to the Federal Government so that Galeão airport could benefit from greater passenger movement, however, the main criticism is that it would harm the terminal, responsible for being one of the busiest in Brazil, so much like passengers.
