Cargo handling for export at the Cargo Terminal (TECA) at Viracopos International Airport, in Campinas (SP), reached in June the highest index of the last 5 and a half years, with an increase of 77,17% in relation to June 2017.

A total of 10.338 tons were handled, compared to 5.835 tons in June 2017 and 5.489 tons in June 2016. The highest export index for a month had been registered in November 2011, with 10.378 tons.

If comparing the first half of 2018 to the same period last year, the growth in exports by Viracopos was 41,93%, with a total of 42.259 tons moved from January to June.

The rise in exports by Viracopos in June was driven by the Automotive sector, with growth of 27,8%, followed by the Metal-Mechanical (16,1%), Chemical (6%), Technology (2,64%), Footwear sectors -Bags (1,80%), Textiles (1,40%), Pharmaceuticals (1,40%) and Two Wheel Transport (1,28%), Food-Beverages-Tobacco (1,24%), among others . 

“This growth in exports has been constant in recent months, but it has intensified because of the rise in the dollar, which stimulates exports, and also due to the large infrastructure of Viracopos, which is capable of absorbing the capacity restriction of other airports”, said the Director of Operations at Viracopos, Marcelo Mota.  

Import

There was also growth in imports. The increase reached 5,86% compared to June 2017, with 10.744 tons compared to 10.149 tons in the same month of 2017. In June 2016, there were 8.217 tons moved in this sector.

If you compare the first half of 2018 to the same period last year, the increase in imports reached 17,65%, with a total of 67.283 tons handled.

Express Shipments

Express shipments (Courier) of Export and Import grew 16,7% in June compared to the same month of 2017. In the first half of this year, the increase reaches 21,3% compared to the same period last year, with a total of 2.993 tons.
