Last Airbus to fly with TAM livery withdrawn from operation; plane will head to the desert

Airbus A320 LATAM TAM

The iconic and much missed TAM brand will very soon completely disappear from Brazilian skies. The last Airbus plane to fly with the company's old livery was withdrawn from operation this weekend.

The Airbus A320, registration PT-MZY, made its last flight yesterday (07) carrying passengers on behalf of LATAM. At the time, he operated flight LA3377 between Recife and Guarulhos.

The flight had Commander Robert Zwerdling as one of its pilots, he recorded the historic and exciting moment through the ASA channel.

The PT-MZY represents the end of an era, as from now on no Airbus aircraft has the TAM livery, putting an 'end point' in a story that lasted 25 years. Now all aircraft are painted by LATAM, the company resulting from the merger with LAN.

The TAM brand, on the other hand, continues flying but now only on the Boeing 767 and only on the PT-MSO, one of the three aircraft of the type in operation.

The Airbus A320 PT-MZY was originally delivered to TAM in 2001, and is part of the first shipment of jets that the company purchased at the end of the 90s, when it also received its first large Airbus A330 aircraft.

TAM was the first Brazilian airline to operate the A320 model, starting a successful trajectory for the model in the country that is operated until today and will probably continue for many years, since Brazil already has several models of the new generation A320neo.

The end of life of the now former LATAM Airbus A320 will be dismantled, just as its 'brothers' went to the US in recent months. It is expected that the aircraft will perform its farewell and return flight later this week to the desert.

LATAM will soon receive new Airbus A320neo aircraft, continuing its fleet renewal process.
