Controversial Venezuelan 747 confiscated in Argentina completed 1 year stopped in Ezeiza

EMTRASUR Argentina Venezuela Iran

The target of a diplomatic misunderstanding between Argentina and Venezuela due to suspicion of espionage and terrorism, a Boeing 747-300 belonging to Venezuelan Emtrasur Cargo is still parked at the airport of Ezeiza (EZE), since the 06th of June last year.

In season, Argentine authorities decided to investigate the plane and denied ground support on its departure. Soon, the Boeing 747 ran out of fuel refueling and maintenance support. The plane landed in Argentina bringing VW parts for car production, taking off from Querétaro, Mexico. The last movement of this 747 was on June 8, 2022, the date on which it carried out an inspection flight.

With no expectation of release, there is no prediction of when Emtrasur Cargo's 747 will be released to take off from Argentine soil. The plane is parked on the old runway 23/05 at Ezeiza airport.

The accusation that the plane belonged to Iran was made by the Minister of Security of Argentina, Fernandez Anibal, pointing out that the plane of the Venezuelan Emtrasur Cargo was being operated by citizens of Iran. As a result, federal judge Federico Villena, from Argentina, decided to confiscate the aircraft.

Anibal declared on Twitter that five detained men, who were part of the crew, carried Iranian passports and are military personnel, including 14 Venezuelan crew members. All passports were withheld until an investigation was carried out with those involved.

The real reason for all this movement could be Argentina's suspicion that an Iranian belongs to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard, despite having no formal complaint involving Gholamreza Ghasemi.

Mahan Airlines sold the Boeing 737-300M with registration YV3531 to Emtrasur Cargo in 2019, and since then this is the only plane operated by the subsidiary of the Venezuelan state-owned company Conviasa. Also noteworthy is the aircraft being blacklisted in the United States, and unable to fly to any North American city.

As Venezuela and Iran are partner countries, both suffer sanctions from Western countries. Recently, Conviasa agreed to incorporate two A340-600 aircraft that are currently operating by the Iranian Mahan Air.
