While the C919 single-aisle aircraft expands its domestic participation by China Eastern Airlines with 4 units of the jet, CAAC recently revealed its plans in the international market.
Although the C919 operates only in China, the Civil Administration of China (CAAC) is pushing for the rival single-aisle plane from Boeing and Airbus to obtain certification from European regulators, opening up the possibility of sales to other operators outside of China. .
According to information from Flight Global Portal, the CAAC announced on social media its desire for the C919 to be certified in Europe, but did not provide details, emphasizing the objective of “promoting China's national aircraft programs abroad”.
The C919 received large investments from the Chinese government, aiming to reduce dependence on international manufacturers. Comac also has another single-aisle aircraft: the ARJ21, an aircraft aimed at domestic routes inspired by the MD-90 under license, plane that received a version dedicated to transporting cargo at the end of 2020.
To date, Comac is working with Tibet Airlines to develop a new, larger variant capable of flying at high altitudes, and has already exported the C919 to TransNusa, from Indonesia.
