“Our objective has always been to put the largest number of airports into operation for increasingly thriving aviation in Brazil. Barreiras has always been at the top of the list of priorities, as it is our second largest undertaking in the PAC (Growth Acceleration Program). By May 17th, we must complete all our analysis, to return the project to the state and be able to put the tender out on the street”, said Pedroso.

Souza, from ABEAR, stated that it was a pleasant surprise to receive, at the public hearing itself, the information that the Barreiras project had reached SAC and was moving towards a solution. He reinforced that some adjustments and improvements are still needed to align the infrastructure with ANAC regulations, ensuring air safety and, mainly, enabling the possibility of increasing the supply of seats with larger planes. “Airlines want to fly more and more within Brazil. We will monitor it closely, because we understand that Barreiras is a super important destination to connect the region with the main centers”, stated the director of ABEAR.

ANAC

“Once the project is in hand, the technical security analysis begins without closing the airport. Once tendered and contracted, we will have a preliminary date for the start of the work. The project can be phased and improvements can be made so that we can approve it as the infrastructure allows”, said the Control and Inspection manager of ANAC's Airport Infrastructure Superintendency, Marcos Roberto Eurich, representing the CEO of ANAC. Agency, Tiago Pereira.

The public hearing was led by federal deputy Neto Carletto, (PP-BA), and was also attended by Ubaldo Brito, director of Terminals at the Secretariat of Transport, Energy and Communication Infrastructure of the State of Bahia; Emerson Erbete Cardoso Macedo, Deputy Mayor of Barreiras; Gil Areas, representative of the “Decola Oeste” Movement; Fernanda Silva Sá Teles, mayor of the Municipality of Wanderley (BA); and ABEAR's Institutional Relations manager, Renato Rabelo, among other authorities.
