Fokker 27 carrying humanitarian aid leaves the runway in Somalia

Fokker 27 Somália

A Safari Express Cargo Fokker 27 was finalizing a transport flight with food for the neediest population in Somalia, when on landing it failed to stop at the limits of the track and ended up leaving and stopping in the dirt.

On board were 3 crew members in the aircraft registration 5Y-SEC, the Fokker 27 landed on runway 20 at Garbaharey Airport in Somalia. At the time of landing there was a strong tailwind.

Runway 02/20 at Garbaharey Airport is 1050 meters long and is unpaved. In addition to the tailwind that may have pushed the plane a little further forward, the fact that the runway is not paved may make it a little difficult to brake the aircraft, due to less friction between the tires and the ground.

There were no injuries among the crew and the aircraft did not suffer significant damage.
