LATAM launches Florianópolis Europe freight route

LATAM Europa Florianópolis

The unprecedented cargo route between Europe and Florianópolis began this month, operated by the cargo affiliate of the LATAM group. With departures from Amsterdam (Netherlands) on Mondays and Brussels (Belgium) on Thursdays, the operation is carried out using Boeing 767-300F cargo aircraft, with a capacity of more than 50 tons per flight. The unprecedented route facilitates the import of cargo from Europe into the South of Brazil, making transport more dynamic, especially pharmaceuticals, as well as general cargo, automotive cargo and spare parts. Now, 1,6 tons of international cargo can be transported per year from Europe to Santa Catarina.

To celebrate the landing of the aircraft of the LATAM group's cargo affiliate from Europe, a ribbon cutting ceremony was held this Friday (26) at Floripa Airport. The celebration was attended by authorities such as Jorginho Mello (Governor of Santa Catarina), Topázio Neto (Mayor of Florianópolis) and Beto Martins (Secretary of Ports and Airports of Santa Catarina), executives from both companies, such as Jorge Carretero, manager of LATAM Cargo Sales in Europe and Ricardo Gesse, CEO Zurich Airport Brasil, as well as representative entities from the industry.

“The inauguration of this unprecedented cargo route is yet another door that we have opened for world trade with Brazil. We have increasingly expanded our connectivity and having a route that will offer even more efficiency and agility in cargo transport between the European market and the South of Brazil reaffirms LATAM's commitment to the country and how the company is attentive to the market and willing to invest in a strategic and sustainable way”, says Jorge Carretero, Sales Manager at LATAM Cargo in Europe.

In the capital of Santa Catarina, it is worth remembering that in December 2023, LATAM Cargo Brasil expanded the operation of its Miami-Florianópolis cargo route, inaugurated in 2020, from two to three weekly flights. Flights are carried out on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on Boeing aircraft. 767-300F with a capacity of more than 50 tons.

“We are investing R$9 million to expand the capacity of our International Cargo Terminal by 400% to meet high demand. We started the year recording the best numbers in the history of the terminal, which became the number one in weight handled in Santa Catarina. LATAM Cargo has been our partner since the beginning of this growth, with the first international cargo route in the history of Santa Catarina connecting Miami to Floripa, inaugurated in 2020 and now, once again, it is by our side on the unprecedented route to Europe” says Ricardo Gesse, CEO of Zurich Airport Brazil.
