FAB holds exhibition at Recife International Airport

The Northeast Air Command Memory Center (II COMAR) inaugurated on Monday (18) an exhibition with pieces from its collection at the International Airport of Recife/Guararapes – Gilberto Freyre. The exhibition, which will remain available to the public until next Friday (22nd) is part of the Recife Air Force Garrison (GUARNAE-RF) celebrations alluding to the 2021 Aviator and Brazilian Air Force Day (FAB), celebrated on 23 of October.

The Commander of II COMAR, Brigadier of the Air Cesar Faria Guimarães, was present in the arrivals hall of the airport for the unveiling of the exhibition, and commented on the importance of bringing the military sphere closer to civil society.

“For us, it is a pleasure to start the Asa Week with a static exhibition, which shows a little of the work of the Air Force here in the Northeast Region. This integration with Pernambuco society and with those who pass by is an opportunity for us to show the work of the FAB, for the public to see a brief exposition of the history and achievements of the FAB, whether in air traffic control, health, prevention and control of aeronautical accidents, among others”, said Brigadier Cesar.

“Parts from the II COMAR collection are on display, highlighting the work of aviation pioneers and the Recife Air Force Garrison, such as the model of the Fairey F III-D seaplane on 17 Santa Cruz, used in the first air crossing of the South Atlantic by the Portuguese Gago Coutinho and Sacadura Cabral, in 1922. In addition, Military Organizations based in Recife also bring to the public some of their work, such as equipment used by the Hospital de Aeronáutica de Recife (HARF) in Operation COVID-19, operational suits used by the Recife Security and Defense Group (GSD-RF) and a console used by air traffic controllers at the Third Integrated Center for Air Defense and Air Traffic Control (CINDACTA III)”, described the Head of the Memory Center, Captain Specialist Aristotle Alves de Moraes.

Until the 4th of November, there will also be the traditional Military Ceremony with the imposition of the Order of Aeronautical Merit and a presentation by the Recife Air Force Band (BARF). The events take place in line with the restrictions due to the pandemic, adopting social distancing measures and mandatory use of personal protective equipment.
