E-2D incident during aircraft carrier landing damages four fighters

An E-2D Advanced Hawkeye suffered an incident when trying to land on the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, belonging to the 5th fleet that is sailing in Arabian waters. The redemption cable that is on the deck did not come into contact with the hook that is on the aircraft. The incident happened at 19:40 pm.

The US Navy confirmed the incident through a spokesman representing the US Fifth Fleet, whose flagship (main vessel) is the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln.

As soon as the pilot noticed that there was no contact between the cable and the hook, he took off with full power. But there was light contact and debris that hit four F-18 Super Hornet fighters.

The plane "made light contact" with two aircraft on deck and debris from the impact hit another pair of planes "causing minor damage," Frey said in an email to the Navy Times.

There were no injuries, only damaged aircraft that should return to active duty as soon as they undergo maintenance.

“All aircraft involved are being repaired to return the aircraft to mission readiness”, he said.
