PF seizes suitcase with R$ 1,38 million during boarding at Recife Airport

On December 06th, the Federal Police approached a man when he was boarding a flight from Recife/PE to São Paulo/SP, carrying with him a suitcase containing the amount of R$ 1.380.000.00 (one million and three hundred and eighty thousand reais).

The action took place during a routine procedure, when the police, when submitting the passenger's suitcase to the x-ray machine, detected the presence of money without due legal proof.

After discovering the amount, the suspect was taken to the Federal Police Superintendence in Recife, where a police inquiry was launched to determine the circumstances of the transport of undeclared values ​​and their origin, a fact typified in the crimes of tax evasion and concealment of values, the latter provided for in art. 1 of Law 9.613/1998, whose penalties vary from 3 to 10 years of imprisonment.

The money was seized and judicially deposited at a Caixa Econômica Federal branch and the investigated person was heard in terms of statements and released. Investigations are ongoing.
