UAC delivers first re-engined Tu-160 bomber

The United Aircraft Corporation (UAC), Russia's state-owned conglomerate, has delivered the first supersonic Tu-160 Blackjack remote-controlled bomber to Tupolev for flight testing, Rostec announced.

The plane received NK-32-02 engines. Now it will be tested by Tupolev itself in its test area at Zhukovsky Airport, near Moscow. After this phase, the aircraft will be handed over to the Russian Aerospace Forces.

According to JanesThe bomber entered service in the late 80s and has since undergone several upgrades, including a boost to the aircraft's nuclear weapons capability in the early 2000s to carry 12 Raduga NPO Kh-555 long-range cruise missiles (AS- 15 'Kent') and laser-guided bombs.

The Tu-160M upgrade is being implemented in two phases, with the first phase of the Tu-160M1 comprising the new K-042K-1 navigation system and ABSU-200-1 autopilot, as well as the removal of some earlier systems such as bomb aiming systems. This Tu-160M1 variant has been operational with the Air Force since late 2014.
