With new certification, Recife Airport now receives large aircraft regularly

Aeroporto de Recife Aena Brasil Aeroportos Nordeste

Managed by Aena Brasil, the International Airport of Recife received the Operational Certificate from the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac). The decision was published in the Federal Official Gazette, in an ordinance issued by the Agency, through the Airport Infrastructure Superintendence.

Certification is essential for airport equipment. It attests to the entire aviation community, inside and outside the country, that the aerodrome is operating within the safety parameters of international civil aviation.

“During the certification process, the airport undergoes several inspections by Anac, which verifies that the equipment is operating in accordance with all internationally established standards. When necessary, some adjustments may be required. The procedure also validates the Operations Manual, which contains the operating model and practices of the concessionaire”, explains Diego Moretti, director of Recife Airport.

A novelty of the certification is that Recife was authorized to regularly receive flights of the Boeing 747-8 aircraft, which is category F. “Although in our operational specification the aerodrome reference code 4E is included, it was included, together with the issuance of the certificate, the specific authorization for the operation of the B747-8F, aircraft code F, without the need to report each landing and takeoff to Anac”, details Usiel Vieira, manager of Operations, Security, Service and Maintenance at Recife Airport .

The Airport Operational Certificate is a requirement of Anac's Brazilian Civil Aviation Regulation (RBAC) 139. The assessments are guided by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO – or ICAO, for its acronym in English), which determines the operational criteria to be met by terminals worldwide. In addition to Recife, the airports in Maceió, João Pessoa and Aracaju, all under the management of Aena Brasil, were also certified.

“Obtaining this certificate demonstrates our effort and commitment to the rules and safety of operations – which are among our pillars –, highlighting that our practices were ratified by the regulatory agency”, reinforces Usiel.
