India has already been an operator of Embraer products for some years, but the Brazilian manufacturer is seeking new contracts with the Asian country. Now the company has offered its two most relevant military aircraft: the KC-390 Millennium freighter and the A-29 Super Tucano attack turboprop.
Embraer's offer comes amid a series of investments that New Delhi has made in its defense sector, with the search, buy e local development of new vectors, as well as the modernization of current equipment. All this in the face of the threat from China and the old feud with Pakistan.
Speaking to the Indian portal Mint, Caetano Neto, director of Embraer Defense & Security, says the company wants to increase local partnerships in a bid to support India's domestic capabilities and, at the same time, help it achieve the status of a global defense exporter.
Embraer is currently negotiating an agreement with India on the KC-390 Millennium multi-mission freighters. Already in operation with the Brazilian Air Force and acquired by Portugal, the Netherlands and Hungary, the model would be used mainly in the northern regions of the country, points out the website.
It should be noted that the Indian Air Force already operates the C-130J Super Hércules, the main competitor of the Brazilian tactical freighter.
In addition, Embraer also sees India as a potential operator of the A-29 Super Tucano. Widely used around the world, including in combat operations, the Super Tucano would be an attractive platform for the Indian Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and border security forces such as the Indo-Tibetan Border Police and Border Security Force. .
"In addition to boosting the country's local manufacturing, Embraer can also help India become a critical supplier in the global supply chain through its substantial offerings in aerospace units," Neto said.
Asked whether Embraer would be willing to transfer technology, Neto said that “India is an important market for us and we look forward to establishing local partnerships in India that can further boost India's defense industries and capabilities.”
“We see India not as a customer, but as a promising business partner”, said the executive, pointing out that Embraer is seeking partnerships with Indian companies not only for services to the local armed forces, but also to the company's global customers.
