Four pilots die in military plane crash in South Korea

This Friday (April 1st) two South Korean Air Force basic training planes collided while performing maneuvers in flight. Four crew members of these aircraft died on the occasion.

The aircraft collided while flying south of Sacheon City, in close proximity to an air base. A team of 130 people was deployed to search for the wreckage of the KT-1 aircraft and its crew, but there are no survivors.

“Despite their emergency escape attempts… all two student pilots and two flight instructors aboard the two planes were killed.”, said in a statement from the Air Force.

The two aircraft used are model KT-1, a small single-engine basic-trainer capable of light attacks when equipped with hardpoints and a 12.7mm machine gun, in a separate version for that role called the KA-1. The plane is practically the size of an Embraer T-27.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in offered condolences to the families of the pilots.
