Boeing Embraer – Defense joint venture will develop new markets for the C-390 Millennium

Embraer and Boeing announced today (18/11) that their joint venture to promote and develop new markets for the C-390 Millennium multi-mission aircraft will be called Boeing Embraer – Defense. The organization will only be operational after the companies' joint venture receives regulatory approvals and fulfills the conditions for closing negotiations.

“Boeing Embraer – Defense will build on the history of collaboration between our companies in commercial aerospace and defense to add greater value to the C-390 Millennium as the airplane enters service and will lead the next generation transport aircraft and air mobility”, said Marc Allen, Boeing's president, Embraer Partnership and Group Operations.

The C-390 Millennium is a tactical transport aircraft designed to set new standards in its category while offering the lowest lifecycle cost on the market.

The aircraft offers the advantages of jet engines to perform airlift and cargo missions, with greater mobility, robust design, greater flexibility, proven cutting-edge technology and easier and more efficient maintenance.

The C-390 Millennium is capable of performing a variety of missions such as aerial resupply, cargo and troop transport, cargo and paratrooper airdrops, search and rescue, aerial firefighting and humanitarian missions.

The C-390 Millennium received Civil Certification from the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) in 2018 and is now in full production. In August 2019, Portugal signed a contract to acquire five aircraft with deliveries scheduled for 2023. The Brazilian Air Force (FAB) received its first aircraft on September 4, 2019. The delivery of the second aircraft to the Brazilian Air Force is scheduled for occur in 4Q19.

Embraer will own a 51% stake in Boeing Embraer – Defense, while Boeing will own the remaining 49%. The C-390 Millennium partnership is one of two planned joint ventures between the companies.

Boeing Brasil – Commercial will be a joint venture comprised of Embraer's commercial aviation operations, with an 80% stake held by Boeing and 20% by Embraer.

Both joint ventures remain subject to regulatory approval and customary closing conditions. The companies expect the transaction to close in early 2020.
