Embraer launches the C-390 Millennium, a multi-mission military transport aircraft

Embraer announced today at the Dubai Air Show the name and designation of its multi-mission transport aircraft, the Embraer C-390 Millennium. The new designation reflects greater flexibility and value for operators looking for an aircraft to perform airlift and air mobility missions, among others.

In 2009, the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) contracted Embraer to design, develop and manufacture the aircraft to replace its C-130 fleet. Deliveries to the FAB began last September.

The C-390 Millennium is a tactical transport jet designed to set new standards in its category, featuring the lowest life cycle cost on the market. Some of the main features of the aircraft are: greater mobility, robust design, greater flexibility, proven cutting-edge technology and easy maintenance.

In addition, the C-390 Millennium can perform a variety of missions, such as cargo and troop transport, airdrop of cargo and paratroopers, search and rescue, aerial firefighting, medical evacuation and humanitarian missions. The KC-390 designation will be retained for customers who have opted for aerial refueling capability.

“With the C-390 Millennium, we will be able to offer the right solution to our customers, according to their specific needs”, said Jackson Schneider, president and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security. “The C-390 is a highly capable aircraft. Its unrivaled combination of speed, payload and rapid reconfiguration for multi-mission operations are the cornerstones of its remarkable productivity.”

Flying faster and adding more value, the Millennium is the ideal platform for the main scenarios of using an air transport aircraft. A minimized number of inspections and an on-demand maintenance philosophy, combined with highly reliable systems and components, reduce aircraft time on the ground and total operating costs, contributing to excellent levels of availability and low life cycle cost.
